Tuesday Talk Highlights April 26, 2011

Kip Brown joined in on the H1Unlimited Tuesday Talk on April 26, 2011. Here are the highlights:

Moderator:
Kip - Does Uncle Nate have any new stuff on the boat this year?
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:20

Kip Brown:
New bullnoses, new rear wing to replace the fenced wing, and changes to the front canard. Also, new gearbox packages and a third engine.
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:21

Dan B.**Detroit**:
Kip, will you and the team be better equipped to RACE this year? Would love to see you be able to push the boat for a win!
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:21

Kip Brown:
Dan, we will be more in race mode this year. As most know, we have been trying to keep our noses clean and procuring parts and paying off stuff.
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:22

Brad in Bellevue:
Kip I have seen you drive smaller boats. Whats the difference when you get in the 17?
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:23

Kip Brown:
The difference is cost and mass. For the most part, the driving is relative. However, I am more willing to push the smaller boats in to tight spots. Not so much in the 17.
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:24

Dan B.**Detroit**:
How do you feel about the new starting procedure Kip?
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:24

Kip Brown:
I like racing for lanes. I will be more at home with that.
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:24

Victor - Owensboro KY:
Kip will we see the same color scheme as last year?
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:24

Kip Brown:
Paint scheme will be the same.
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:25

Brad Luce:
Kip, last year you missed Detroit and TC's. What is your schedule for this summer with the U boat?
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:25

Kip Brown:
I will miss Detroit again to save some vacation and run at Black Lake in Olympia. I will be at the others unless China goes off.
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:25

Brad in Bellevue:
On TV Nate said he loves you but sometimes he wants to kill you. What did you do to get that reaction
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:26

Jae ,Seattle:
Kip are you guys going back to the "nun"? Boat seemed more competive with the more conventional cowling
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:27

Kip Brown:

We think the cowling had less to do than the underwater gear changes. We will run the swept back cowling again with the nun.
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:28

Bianca Bononcini:
Will Nate drive the boat in Detroit?
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:27

Kip Brown:
Nate will drive at Detroit.
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:27

Mark from Wichita:

Kip: If Nate won the Powerball next weekend, what would be the first thing that he'd buy for the 17?
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:28

Kip Brown:
Nate would probably hire Jeff to drive...
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:28

Kip Brown:
Seriously, we would improve our depth in gear ratios and propellers.
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:29

Kip Brown:
BTW- Nate says hi to all of you.
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:30

Jae ,Seattle:
Kip, Is red dot on board again this year as national sponser or are you guys still looking?
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:30

Kip Brown:
Red Dot is our title sponsor again. We are so excited to have them with us!
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:31

Kip Brown:
We can certainly use a presenting sponsor though.
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:31

Moderator:

Red Dot is on for the Season?
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:31

Kip Brown:
Red Dot is on for the National Circuit.
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:32

Doug Ford:
Congrats to Nate and Kip on sponsorship
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:32

Kip Brown:
Doug, Nate is too old to be out of bed, let alone driving.
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:32

Brad in Bellevue:

So what will the cowling look like when we see you?
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:33

Kip Brown:

THe cowling will look like 2008 and 2009.
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:33

Victor - Owensboro KY:
You said you were being conservative. Were you running the boat as about 90% or is it even capable of more? Is 100% when bad thing happen or is it 101%.
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:33

Kip Brown:

It is hard to pick a %, as a lot of the shortcomings were mine, and we constantly improved our boat handling. Now that it can be driven, we are more likely to put ourselves in a position to compete, instead of staying out of the way.
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:34

Kip Brown:
In fact, I was working 100% harder to go 20 MPH slower a couple years ago. It is much easier to drive now.
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:35

Moderator:
Kip - You looked really fast qualifying the end of the season. Bodes well for 2011?
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:36

Kip Brown:

Yes. Our boat speed is much improved and it will just about go where we want it now.
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:36

Kip Brown:
Qualifying has always been easier for us cause there are no other pesky boats to get in the way.
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:37

Brendon in Tri-Cities:

Kip, do you plan on testing at Lake Sammamish this year?
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:37

Kip Brown:
We will be at Tastin and Racin again to test. Should be a good test for the short course at Madison.
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:38

Moderator:
How hard will you try to get lane 1. Do you like it in there?
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:38

Kip Brown:
A lot depends on the boat. If it will drive there, I will be there.
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:38

Sharkey: Anaheim:
Kip, what is your favorite course?
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:38

Kip Brown:
I like Tri Cities. And San Diego is awesome.
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:39

Steve/Owensboro:
Kip, what do you think about the shorter course at Madison this year?
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:39

Kip Brown:
I wish we could run the normal course, but it is what it is. Should be fun!
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:40

Roger B:
Kip have you driven any other Unlimited?
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:41

Kip Brown:
No Roger. I would like to just to compare.
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:41

John-Miami:
With Madison in mind, did you have to come up with a new gear and prop combo?
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:41

Jae ,Seattle:
kip, Any other U-boats plan on testing at Tastin and Racing that you know of?
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:41

Kip Brown:
Jae, not yet, but there is typically two.
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:42

Moderator:
Between limited and unlimited racing, how many weekends a year do guys like you and Jeff drive?
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:43

Kip Brown:
We are racing 18 weekends plus Qatar this year. BUSY.
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:43

Steve/Owensboro:
Kip, do you have any personal or team goals for 2011?
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:43

Kip Brown:
Steve, I want to win some heats and would really like to be on the podium this year. I think those are achievable goals.
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:44

Kip Brown:
If some wins come our way, I would not complain!
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:44

Brad in Bellevue:
Who wins between you and Bernard when the boats are equal?
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:44

Kip Brown:
Depends on lane position. He would say me. I would probablu agree...
Tuesday April 26, 2011 6:45

Kip Brown:
Thanks everybody! Time to get back to the glue...
